Merge Fields allow you to personalize your messages with predefined attributes like First Name, Last Name, and School Name.
Merge fields are generated via Text-To-Speech and should be used for those alerts in which something must be specified within the message. For example, you may want to indicate the actual date for today's snow day or ensure that a parent knows which of their children has a low lunch balance.
Below are SwiftK12's Merge Fields with definitions.
First name- This will merge in the contacts first name to personalize your message content, it will allow you to send in bulk with each first name merging for the correct contact.
Last name- This will merge in the contacts last name to personalize your message content, it will allow you to send in bulk with each last name merging for the correct contact.
Middle Name-This will merge in the contacts middle name to personalize your message content, it will allow you to send in bulk with each middle name merging for the correct contact.
School Name- This will allow you to send from a district level, and merge in the school name associated with each individual student.
Absence Type- This allows you to merge in the absent code reason, for example: unexcused, suspension, doctor’s appointment all based off of the absent codes used for that building.
Period Count- This allows you to add how many periods the student missed throughout that particular school day.
Periods- This allows you to merge in the name of the class associated with the period missed. This can be helpful for picking up missed school work etc.
Current Balance- This allows you to merge in the current balance owed on a fee-based alert.
Low Grade List- This will allow you to merge the classes as a list that are hitting the low-grade alert threshold.
Total Charge- This allows you to merge in the total charge amount of the fee. Even if it has been reduced you can still display the full amount originally owed.
Total Paid- This allows you to send an alert with the amount owed as well as how much has paid thus far.
Fee Name- This allows you to merge in the name of the fee or fees you are looking to collect on. It is helpful especially if there is more than one fee alert set up for them to be deciphered.
Fee Description- This allows you to put a description of the fee that you are sending the alert for. Example: Could be sports fee, but you may add for uniform, or yearly cost.
Fee Category- This allows you to merge in the category where the fee resides, example: sports, yearbook, school supplies, electronics etc.
Fee Date- This allows you to merge in the date the fee was or is due.
Days Aging- This allows you to show how many days past due they are on this particular fee.
Today- This allows you to merge in the date for today.
Tomorrow- This allows you to merge in the date for the next day.
Inserting a Merge Field:
Merge fields can be added to any alert. On the Compose Message page of your alert, click the dropdown menu for Insert Merge Field.
Select your desired field by clicking on the merge field. It will be inserted into the place indicated by your cursor within your message content.
